Alumni Welcoming


We invite all former students of Kagumo High School to regularly visit the site for updates of what is happening to your former high school.




Kagumo High School is a boys’ National Secondary School located between Kirichu and Kiganjo townships along the Karatina-Nanyuki road. The school was established on 2nd January 1933 as a primary school at Gatitu, Nyeri County, at the present ground site of Kagumo Teachers Training College. Its purpose then was to develop trainable artisans for Native African Training depot. In September 2013 Kagumo High School celebrated 80 years anniversary.

In 1948, the school had developed into a junior secondary school and eventually to a fully secondary school.

Kagumo High School became one of the first schools in Kenya to allow native black Africans to sit for university level entrance exams doing so in 1951. All the 18 students passed and joined Makere University College.

In 1950s, Chief Wambugu wa Muigua donated land and the school relocated to the current site in 1960 under the leadership of Rev. Mulheish. Since then the school has produced several notable alumni who have influenced the development of the country in many ways.

 As such, Kagumo High School is considered one the best high schools in Kenya and continues to excel in national examinations, co-curricular activities and creative arts. In the year 2012, the school became a National School with a population of about 1200 students and about 50 members of the teaching staff. Currently Mr.Kiwara is the Head of the school.


Kagumo High School Alumni, also known as Kagumo Old Boys Association (KOBA), identifies itself with the school since the time the association was founded and registered in 1983 under the chairmanship of Francis Muhindi, CEO Manpower Services Ltd.

Since then Kagumo Alumni have been active in carrying out various projects in the school such as library restocking, sports facilities, career talks among many others.

Kagumo Alumni also plays a great role in students’ mentorship programme. It includes old boys who are role models to the students and to the School fraternity. Among them in the medical field are Cardiologist Dr. Dan Gikonyo, CEO Karen Hospital, Dr. Sam Thenya, CEO Nairobi Women’s Hospital and many others. In academic field, Kagumo Alumni includes: Prof. Francis Gichaga, Prof. Godfrey Muriuki among many others. 

In the banking sector, Prof. Njuguna Ndungu, Gorvernor, Central Bank Of Kenya, Dr. James Mwangi, Group Managing Director & CEO, Equity Bank, Dr. Gideon Muriuki, Group Managing Director & CEO, Co-Op Bank of KenyaMr. Hassan Ahmed, CEO National Bank of Kenya, Mr. Richard Langat, MD NSSF among others. The reknown Constitutional Lawyer Gibson Kamau Kuria is also a Kagumo Alumni.

Kagumo Alumni also include prominent politicians and high ranking civil servants such as Dr. Gitu Kahengeri, Mr. Francis Kimemia, Hon. Kenneth Marende, and Cabinet Secretary for Health, James Wainaina Macharia, Senator Mutahi Kagwe, and Senator Daniel Karaba among others.

It is with this in mind that Kagumo Old Boys Association is able to coordinate and mobilise the old boys to assist in the implementation of KOBA projects that are beneficial to the school.

Currently, under the chairmanship of Prof. Maina Muchara and committed executive committee members, KOBA have successfully coordinated the implementation and completion of a Ksh4.2 million project. This involved the refurbishment of two of the old dormitories which are over 50 years old.

Currently the plans are underway to refurbish Wambugu, Kimathi and Muhoya houses at a cost of about Ksh.5.2 million

Kagumo Alumni is committed to giving back to the school as enshrined in their mission and vision.
